Sister Simone Campbell was the leader of the “Nuns on the Bus,” the group of activist Roman Catholic nuns who followed U.S. House Budget Committee Chairman and vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan on his election-year campaign stops, challenging his proposal to dramatically reduce spending for anti-poverty programs while cutting taxes for Americans in the highest income brackets.  She is the executive director of NETWORK and, in that position, has challenged America as well as church doctrine on issues of morality, especially how we treat poor people, women and other oppressed people. She will speak at Northampton Community College on Thursday, February 7th at 7:30 PM.  Before she does that, though, she will be his guest on Lehigh Valley Discourse, live at 6 PM on WDIY.

Also, joining him will be Maryann Haytmanek, director of the college’s New Choices program, who brought Sister Simone Campbell to campus to focus attention on the college’s effort to keep poverty from interrupting students’ studies.
