The Home Ownership Counseling Program will prepare you to become a homeowner. The HOCP seminar is organized into six topics, which are conducted on two consecutive Saturdays. Attendance to both dates is required.

The seminar provides a comprehensive overview of the homebuying process including down payment information and closing cost assistance programs. Presenters include lenders, realtors, home inspectors, homeowners’ insurance agents, and closing agents. The seminar provides eight hours of HUD-approved.
As part of the First Time Homebuyer Seminar, participants must attend a One-On-One pre-purchase Counseling session with a HUD-certified counselor to receive their certificate of completion. During this session, the counselor reviews the participant’s credit report to offer individualized guidance and develops a Universal Action Plan to evaluate the current situation, identify needs, and set goals with target dates. A finalized Household Budget is also prepared and discussed. After completing the counseling session, participants are issued a certificate of completion.
