The Crisis We're Facing

“The increased need has been met with decreased funding — and the impact is devastating.”
— Dawn Godshall, CEO, Community Action Lehigh Valley
Second Harvest is facing a full-blown crisis. Massive budget cuts and funding delays have left our shelves nearly empty and our clients with impossible choices: rent or food?
By the Numbers
$13 million in USDA food purchases terminated — wiping out fresh produce, dairy, and meat from 14 PA food banks.
Our largest food donor, United Natural Foods, is closing its warehouse this fall — a loss of 500,000 pounds
of food annually.
$1.2 million lost from the Local Food Purchasing Agreement — halting contracts with 43 regional farmers.
10,000 people are receiving less food each month than before.

When the Support Chain Breaks, Hunger Follows

“These are not just budget line items. These are lifelines.”
— Sarah Wassel, Associate Executive Director,
Second Harvest Food Bank
Second Harvest provides food to over 110,000 people every month, including working families, seniors, veterans, and children. Without intervention, more will be forced to skip meals.

We're fighting back - but we can't do it alone
We’re forming new partnerships, working with local warehouses, leveraging corporate donors, and maximizing every dollar. But dry goods and snack packs can’t replace fresh, nutritious meals.
“When basic needs go unmet, mental health suffers. Stress rises. So do rates of suicide, domestic violence, and child abuse. These are the hidden costs of budget cuts.”
— Jessica Reimert, CFO, Community Action Lehigh Valley
