Allentown's renowned Cleveland Elementary School is about to enter a new chapter in its storied history. Community Action Lehigh Valley has revealed its plans to acquire the iconic institution’s property with the goal to transform it into a cutting-edge Youth Center designed to serve, nurture, and empower the young minds of the region.
Set to finalize the acquisition on Friday, September 29, 2023, the initiative showcases Community Action’s unwavering dedication to the youth of the Lehigh Valley. With this transformative project, the organization aims to rebuild on a historic property, ensuring its continued significance in the community for generations to come.
Commenting on the initiative, Dawn Godshall, Executive Director of Community Action, conveyed the organization's excitement and gratitude. "We are delighted to be reaching this momentous occasion and would like to express our deepest gratitude to all of our supporters, partners, and the community for their unwavering support throughout this journey," said Godshall. "The transformation of the Cleveland School site into a Youth Center will enable us to better serve our community's youth, providing them with a safe, nurturing, and empowering space to grow and thrive."
The envisioned Youth Center will be more than just a facility. It promises a holistic experience with a plethora of educational, recreational, and social activities. From academic assistance and mentorship to exposure in arts, sports, and leadership, the center is poised to be a beacon of growth. Furthermore, vocational training aspects of the center could pave the way for budding career opportunities for the youth.
Such a monumental undertaking wouldn't be possible without the collective effort of many. Community Action extends its heartfelt appreciation to partners, supporters, and the local government for their relentless dedication. Their collaborative spirit has indeed transformed a dream into an impending reality.
A celebration of this significant step and the vision for the future took place on Friday, September 29 at Plunkett & Graver PC, 615 Waterfront Drive, Suite 301, Allentown.
